With thousands of abuse victims coming forward, the Boy Scouts of America® establishes a victim fund to provide the necessary compensation to victims. Although the Boy Scouts of America® had filed for bankruptcy in February 2020, a victim's fund will still be available to those who file an individual claim.

2019

many states expand their statute of limitations in order to encourage more victims to come forward against the boy scouts of america®.

2012

in an oregon trial, a court ruled that all boy scout® files that contained details of abuse be released to the public. the investigators reviewed over 1,200 cases. the investigators found that the organization asked abusive leaders to resign rather than report them to the police.

2007

6 men filed lawsuits against the boy scouts of America® claiming that they had been abused by adult leaders. the victims received compensation totaling over $19 million.

1994

the boy scouts of america® begins to implement background checks on all scoutmasters in order to help stop cases of abuse.

1972

The Boy Scouts of America® begins to implement standards for leadership in an attempt to screen adult leaders before they enter the organization.
